INFORMATION, LINKS AND GUARANTEES

Why Choose Our Rabbitry

With us, every rabbit is much more than just an animal: they are a cherished companion, raised with patience and care. Thanks to our exclusive partnership with a veterinary clinic, all of our rabbits can be sterilized and microchipped before leaving, often as early as 8 weeks old for males and 14 weeks for females. Their recovery takes place at the Rabbitry, in a familiar and comforting environment, often alongside their mother, which significantly reduces stress. This unique approach ensures both the health and well-being of the rabbits while greatly simplifying life for their new families.

Regular participation in shows allows us to improve the quality of our rabbits and carefully select our breeders to offer animals that meet their breed standards. But what matters most to us is helping change the way people see these little beings. Having already worked in rescue, we know how important it is to promote responsible adoption and ethical breeding that truly respects the animal.

Spay/Neuter and Microchipping

What We Offer

In partnership with a veterinary clinic, we offer sterilization of rabbits born at the Rabbitry before they leave for their new home.

Thanks to our breeder discount, the adoption price of one of our sterilized rabbits represents a savings of several hundred dollars, and is even lower than the cost of a single sterilization procedure in a clinic in Québec City.

Benefits for Males

Reduced unwanted behaviors: Less aggression, urine marking, mounting behavior.
Improved cohabitation: Fewer fights, better compatibility with other rabbits.
Disease prevention: Eliminates the risk of testicular tumors, reduces infections.
Population control: Prevents accidental reproduction.
Overall well-being: Less hormone-related stress.
Safer procedure when done early: Faster recovery and fewer complications.

Benefits for Females

Disease prevention: Reduced risk of uterine and ovarian cancers, and serious infections such as pyometra.
Behavioral improvement: Less aggression, territorial behavior, and marking.
Population control: Prevents accidental litters.
Overall well-being: Less hormonal stress, better quality of life.
Easier cohabitation: Better compatibility with other rabbits.
Safer procedure when done early: Faster and safer recovery.

Safety and Procedure

Sterilization is a common veterinary procedure performed under anesthesia by an experienced exotic-animal veterinarian. Young rabbits recover more quickly than older ones.

We are proud to state that none of our rabbits have ever suffered complications nor died following surgery.

Setting the Record Straight

Recently, some misinformation has circulated about our rabbitry. It has been suggested that our rabbits are not sterilized by a veterinarian, or that we claim early sterilization keeps rabbits smaller. These statements are false.

All surgeries are indeed performed by a duly qualified veterinarian, as required by the Veterinary Surgeons Act. Furthermore, we have always explained that a rabbit’s adult size is determined by genetics, not by the age at which they are sterilized.

  • Mancinelli et al., 2014: A comprehensive review concluding that no negative effects were observed on body growth or adult weight (Journal of Exotic Pet Medicine, 23(2), 120–125).

  • Quesenberry & Carpenter, 2012: Recommend neutering as early as 8 weeks for males and 10–12 weeks for females if the minimum weight is reached, with no link to growth delay (Ferrets, Rabbits and Rodents).

  • Keeble et al., 2005, UC Davis: Clinical study on over 100 rabbits neutered between 9 and 16 weeks; normal growth, fast recovery, and fewer postoperative complications than rabbits sterilized as adults.

  • House Rabbit Society: Across decades and thousands of rabbits, early spay/neuter has never been found to affect adult size or physical development.

We believe it is important to address misconceptions calmly, not to defend ourselves, but to preserve the trust of the families who choose to adopt from us.

Genetic Selection

We participate in nearly every American Rabbit Breeder Association (ARBA) show held in Québec, Eastern Ontario, and some in New York State. ARBA evaluations are essential in guiding our breeding decisions.

Genetic selection helps improve conformation, coat, temperament, and overall health while respecting precise standards. We are committed to maintaining a balance between quality and well-being.

Weaning and Departure

All rabbits leave the rabbitry at a minimum age of 8 weeks, according to veterinary guidelines. Premature weaning (before 7 weeks) can lead to:

  • Nutritional deficiencies

  • Digestive disorders

  • Anxiety or aggression

  • Low weight

  • Weakened immune system

Reservation Terms

  • Reservation requires a 50% deposit (Interac e-transfer)

  • No deposit = no reservation

  • Balance due at pickup (or 12 hours prior if using transport)

  • Pickup deadline: 14 days maximum

  • Deposit is non-refundable unless the sale is canceled by us

  • Sexing errors possible (no refund), unless the rabbit is already sterilized

  • Returns accepted if the adopter must rehome the rabbit (no refund)

  • No rabbit may be bred without explicit approval

  • Adult behavior not guaranteed; sterilization is strongly recommended for rabbits leaving the Rabbitry intact.

We reserve the right to refuse an adoption if:

  • The adopter does not appear suitable

  • The adopter has previously rehomed one of our rabbits without informing us

  • The adopter displays disrespectful or manipulative behavior

In exceptional circumstances (hospitalization, loss of capacity), we may understand, but future adoptions will depend on the transparency with which the situation was handled.

Health Guarantee

  • 6-month coverage for congenital malformations (medical report required)

  • No refunds, but another rabbit of equal value may be offered (sterilization fees excluded)

  • Guarantee is non-retroactive and non-transferable

Guarantee Limitations

The guarantee does not cover:

  • The animal’s health, weight, muscle development, or immune system

  • Adult behavior

  • Illnesses, injuries, or death occurring after the 72-hour guarantee period

  • Veterinary expenses incurred by the buyer

These limitations apply particularly in cases such as:

  • Poor dietary transition

  • Sudden temperature changes

  • Illnesses or injuries after departure

  • Diet composed only of hay and vegetables with no complete pellets

Feeding Clause

A rabbit’s health and temperament depend directly on its diet and environment. Inadequate feeding may cause:

  • Weight loss and muscle wasting

  • Aggressive or irritable behavior

  • Weakened immune system

  • Digestive disorders and dental problems

By adopting from us, the buyer acknowledges and accepts that meeting nutritional needs is essential to the rabbit’s health and behavioral balance. Any negligence in this regard voids the application of the health and temperament guarantee.

Diet and Environment

  • Unlimited 2nd-cut hay

  • Soucy pellets

  • No vegetables introduced at this time

  • Litter training started in hardwood-pellet litter boxes

  • Temperature: 22 °C (summer), 17 °C (winter)

  • Exposure to dogs, cats, and neighbors’ children for socialization
